PART 6: BUTTERFLY
We all know I was going to have to get around to it eventually. Yes, this is the perverted We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. song. But it's LATIN JAZZ, and we all know what a sucker I am for latin jazz<33. It's a rockin song. Dancy, dancy, perverted song. God only knows why he wrote this one...
I'll post the youtube, but not the lyrics...

Enjoy!

I lvoe it when he dives off the boat. I'm sorry, but that's just cool. Also, I like how he mentions the hip hop guitar thing. I was like, dude, yes, you are a guitar virtuoso. Don't be so humble =] But yeah, I love how his songs post a challenge- to be memorized. It's fun. It's not just music, it's a game.

PART FIVE: IF IT KILLS ME
This one's off of We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. It was the second one I got really hooked to off the album. The lyrics are all too appropriate for the Eave/ Me situation. It's kind of an anthem- Succeed or die trying. I don't think I have much to say about this one. I listen to it over and over, much like the rest. He plays it on a ukelele in concert. It's just him, no features.
A bright note- JASON MRAZ IS PLAYING I'M YOURS AND LUCKY ON SNL ON JANUARY 31!!!

[^That's actually one of him at PITT!!]
Hello, tell me you know
Yeah, you figured me out
Something gave it away
And it would be such a beautiful moment
To see the look on your face
To know that I know that you know now
And baby that’s a case of my wishful thinking
You know nothing
Cause you and I
Why, we go carrying on for hours on end
We get along much better
Than you and your boyfriend
Well all I really wanna do is love you
A kind much closer than friends use
But I still can’t say it after all we’ve been through
And all I really want from you is to feel me
As the feeling inside keeps building
And I will find a way to you if it kills me
If it kills me
Well how long, can I go on like this,
Wishing to kiss you,
Before I rightly explode?
This double life I lead isn’t healthy for me
In fact it makes me nervous
If I get caught I could be risking it all
Baby there’s a lot that I miss
In case I’m wrong
Well all I really wanna do is love you
A kind much closer than friends use
But I still can’t say it after all we’ve been through
And all I really want from you is to feel me
As the feeling inside keeps building
And I will find a way to you if it kills me
If it kills me
If I should be so bold
I’d ask you to hold my heart in your hand
Tell you from the start how I’ve longed to be your man
But I never said a word
I guess I’m gonna miss my chance again
All I really wanna do is love you
A kind much closer than friends use
But I still can’t say it after all we’ve been through
And all I really want from you is to feel me
As the feeling inside keeps building
And I will find a way to you if it kills me
If it kills me
If it kills me
I think it might kill me
And all I really want from you is to feel me
It’s a feeling inside that keeps building
And I will find a way to you if it kills me
If it kills me
If it kills me
It might kill me

PART 4: WORDPLAY
This was the second Mraz song I got obsessive with. Even now, when I listen to it, I can’t do it just once. I’m still obsessed. And I can proudly sing all the words =]
The music video for this song is STRANGE. He’s playing guitar and singing (barefooted)… sitting on a log on a hillside. It ends with blood and village people (not the band) and rocks. I’m NOT posting this music video.
The song is like his lyrical anthem. I’ll post the lyrics and let you interpret what I mean.
I've been all around the world/ I've been a new sensation/ But it doesn't really matter/ In this regeneration/ The sophomore slump is an uphill battle/ And someone said that ain't my scene/ 'Cause they need a new song/ Like a new religion/ Music for the television/ I can't do the long division/ Someone do the math/ For the record label puts me on the shelf up in the freezer/ Gotta find another way to live the life of leisure/ So I drop my top/ Mix and I mingle/ Is everybody ready for the single and it goes/
Ha La La La La/ Listen closer to the verse I lay/ Ha La La La La/ It's all about the wordplay/ Ha La La La love/ The wonderful thing it does/ Because, because/ I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's/ Yeah The Mr. A to Z/ They say I'm all about the wordplay/
And it's time to get ill, I got your remedy/ For those who don't remember me/ Well let me introduce you to my style/ I try to keep a jumble in the lyrics never mumble/ When the music's makin' people tongue-tied/ You want a new song/ Like a new religion/ Music for the television/ I can't do the long division/ Someone do the math/ For the people write me off like I'm a one-hit wonder/ Gotta find another way to keep from goin' under/ Pull out the stops/ Got your attention/ I guess it's time again for me to mention the wordplay/
Ha La La La La/ Listen closely to the verse I lay/ Ha La La La La/ It's all about the wordplay/ Ha La La La love/ The wonderful thing it does/ Because, because/ I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's/ Yeah The Mr. A to Z/ They say I'm all about the wordplay/
I built a bridge across the stream of consciousness/It always seems to be a flowin'/ But I don't know/ Which way my brain is goin'/ Oh the rhymin' and the timin'/ Keeps the melodies inside of me/ And they're coming/ 'Till I'm running out of air/ Are you prepared to take a dive into the deep end of my head/ Are you listening to a single word I've said?/
Ha La La La La/ Listen closer to the words I say/ Ha La La La La/ I'm Stickin' to the wordplay/ Ha La La La Love/ The wonderful thing it does Because/ because I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's/ Yeah the Mr. A to Z/ They say I'm all about the wordplay
Ha La La La La/ I'm all about the wordplay/ Ha La La La La/ I'm stickin' with the wordplay/ Ha La La La Love/ I love the wonderful thing it does/ Because, because/ The ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's fall back in love/ For the Mr. A to Z they say is all about the wordplay
Long song, but a wonderful one. And those lyrics rip FAST, man! But it's so impossibly great. My favorite parts are "Because because the oohs and ahhs and fa la la's fall back in love" and the vibrato at the end of "Are you listening to a single word I've said?".
Tomorrow's song: DID YOU GET MY MESSAGE, in honor of He's Just Not That Into You.

PART 3: SHE’S MINE
I first heard this song on YouTube, and idk what vid, but I downloaded it and have loved it ever since. It’s today’s song because of the concert vid I found. It’s my favorite concert of his on YouTube, and when I watched the vid I found that the song I have is the audio from that concert! I am going to do all album songs first, even though this one’s out of order.
The song is very whimsical and windy-dindy (and yes, I did just make dindy up). It gets a little monotonous, but it’s fine if you listen to the lyrics and get yourself into it. My favorite parts are where he sings, “So it may come as no surprise why I’m the perfect guy for her” and “I pretend I’m Gilligan and she’s Mary Ann and Ginger combined” (just because of my gingerness [which is another word I made up c= ] ).

Today's song, as promised is Geek in the Pink.
This is, by far, Jason Mraz's best song (penultimated by I'm Yours). It's the first Mraz song I ever heard. It was introduced to me by Tina, and it wasn't even the song we were infatuated by. It was Greg Sanders. And yes, I tried to post the vid itself here, but Webs hates me, so I'll try to embed and if that doesn't work, I'll link it.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1rgA50r1Hbo&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1rgA50r1Hbo&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
But, yes, after watching the vid also my first GS youtube viewed) and declaring it the Greg Sanders anthem, I noticed how amazing the song was. I downloaded it and listened to it alone for 2 weeks- it was before I had my Zune, and I could put my Samsung on repeat one, so I listened to it every day to and from school for 2 weeks straight. My earbuds broke after that (no lie). The lyrics were memorized exactly in three days. I later noticed how fabulous the singer's voice was, and that was when the obsession was born. But that's a whole other Oprah.
The song is amazing. The lyrics are fantastic and creative- I love "My shot to mock you kinda puts me in a tight spot"- I used it in Starstruck and is often true for real life. It's a feel-good song. I just fricking adore it!!!!
I just realized that in the beginning, when Jason says, "Yo, wassup B?" he's adressing Bushwalla. God, I'm dumb...
So there's your 44th song.
The list:
45. I'm Yours
44. Geek in the Pink
Enjoy!!
[Kay pause. Teehee
So there's this Plane live vid I adore [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHFlUVe5SMo&feature=related ], and this one was reccomended for me on my youtube, and I noticed the setting- it's the same concert! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0lz06iPWTo&feature=rec-fresh+div And I just realized that guitar has a third fret marker. grrrr...]

SQUEAL!!! I have this one as She's Mine, and I knew that when I opened the vid. But when he talked, I realized- the mp3 I have of him singing it is AT THIS CONCERT!!!!!!!!) Can't you just sit and WATCH him sing??? I pretty much blew my speakers at the last 30 seconds or so of warming up.]
On the positive side, it is still 44 days today because I, uh, added another song to the list- Warming Up...

Today's Jason Jam-
I'm Yours (album version).
It's fitting, seeing how popular it is. It was nominated for 3 Grammys (which will be on CBS on February 8th!). Mraz and crew were very surprised with it's success. It crept up on them out of nowhere. It was written by Mraz and has chords that are impossible for me to play without a capo
In my personal opinion, the song is amazing. I first became obsessed with it when I acquired the leaked demo version (which is just as popular as the album version, but isn't played publicly) in August of 08. I may have actually blogged about it- I'll get back to you on that. I prefer the album version to the demo version for a few reasons:
1. The song clarity. As soon as you hear the opening chords, you can tell the difference.
2. The scatting in the middle (and the end, if listening on the album, not the radio). Do ja do do but do ja? Hahah
3. Near the end, when it splits into dual melodies, I prefer Jason against the choir to Jason against himself. It sounds nicer.
4. I love it when he goes, " Dis oh dis oh dis is our fate. I'm yours." Hehe- idk, I'm just obsessed with that part.
I'm one of those people who, every time they hear the song, at the same part, turns to the nearest window and draws a smiley face in time.
I just love the song to death.
And guess what I just found out??
Guess who's gonna be on SNL on January 31??
THAT'S RIGHT!!!!!

And I'm sorry, but as much as I tried to find the music vid on YouTube, it's just not there. This vid has WAYYY better picture quality too!!!! And it's official- right from www.jasonmraz.com
(WHICH I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU ALL CHECK OUT!!!)
Next song on 44 Days?
GEEK IN THE PINK
